Hello new friend.
I’m so glad you’re here. The internet is this big, wild place and by some chance or will of the divine, you found your way here. What a delight! Welcome.
The Inner Terrain is a publication all about the inner life. I’m obsessed with it and I wanted a place to share what I’m learning, thinking about, and making meaning of as a woman doing her best to cultivate a good, well-rooted, and wholehearted life. Keep reading to see my responses to the questions that may be top of mind for you as you find your way through my page.
Who is the writer here?
It’s me, Bethaney Wilkinson, or bethaney.bree on Instagram. I’m an author, journaler, creative person, and lover of beauty and big feelings. I live in rural Middle Georgia with my husband and our two dogs, Isla and Bear. I want to have kids, but life hasn’t opened those doors yet, so we’ll see. My full-time job is leading a non-profit organization that partners with African American landowners to sustainably manage southern forests. Spiritually/religiously, I’m an Orthodox Christian who’s been in the church since April 2025, so I’m a neophyte through and through. While I occasionally write about my faith, it’s sacred to me so I don’t share the details all that often.
Generally, my life is very full and quite lovely, for which I’m grateful.

What are your most popular posts?
Here are a few of the posts that have resonated most with readers:
On walking with Christ again. I know I said I don’t write about my faith much, but it was important to me that I shared this big update with my readers after spending a few years on the margins of religious tradition.
Baptized in the real. I wrote about taking a break from social media and leaning into real life, off screen, as a healing pathway for the soul.
I wish I’d written “the dignity gap”. As a former racial justice educator, I shared my thoughts on what it looks like to engage a self-giving love for one’s enemies.
When you realize you can’t do it all. This post is all about getting real with ourselves about limitations, and embracing the fact that we can’t do and be everything.
